Intermodal Network Update for Friday, June 21, 2024

Date
Jun 21, 2024

OPERATIONAL PERFORMANCE
The operation continues to deliver consistent overall service performance on the network. While down slightly from the prior week, car velocity remains above the average for May. Terminal dwell is steady with last week and was reduced from the previous month and our local service compliance measure is averaging over 90%, an improvement versus the prior week.

Heavy rains in the Upper Midwest have caused minor flooding and washouts, and some traffic may be delayed and rerouted over the next 48 hours.

Customers with grain and merchandise shipments destined for Mexico are experiencing extended cycle times while in Mexico. BNSF teams continue to work with their Mexican counterparts to improve fluidity and increase velocity.

LOGISTICS PARK KANSAS CITY SEQUENCING PROCESS UPDATE
As part of our ongoing investments to improve efficiency, BNSF implemented a new driver sequencing process on June 9 to streamline container flow at our Logistics Park Kansas City (LPKC) facility during higher lift demand times. This new process allows the driver to wait for their container near the Driver’s Assistance Building (DAB) until a transfer spot adjacent to the requested container is available.

Thank you for your patience as we continue to work through the system enhancements to our terminal operating system needed to support these efforts. We have additional resources from across the system to assist in recovery at LPKC and have seen positive momentum this week, but you may continue to see delays as operations adjust to the new process.

SERVICE EXPECTATIONS FOR THE WEEK AHEAD
High temperatures exceeding 100 degrees are expected in parts of the desert Southwest and California through the weekend. BNSF teams are conducting additional track inspections and following heat-injury prevention procedures to protect teams and equipment.

For the rest of the network, seasonable weather and favorable operating conditions are expected, with no extreme weather anticipated during the upcoming week.

We thank you for your business and appreciate the opportunity to serve as your transportation service provider. We welcome your feedback and questions.
