Automotive Network Update for Friday, May 26, 2023
OPERATIONAL PERFORMANCE
BNSF continues to generate solid service performance heading into the holiday weekend. Average car velocity increased versus the prior week, and terminal dwell was reduced versus both the preceding week and last month. Our local service compliance measure remains stable from the previous week at over 91% and has increased by nearly three percent compared to April.
As we reported to impacted customers last week, we experienced a derailment south of Shiro, Texas, approximately 65 miles northwest of Houston, caused by a track washout from severe thunderstorms in the area. Some trains to/from the Houston area experienced delays as crews completed track repairs during an approximately 48-hour outage.
MEMORIAL DAY OPERATING PLAN
BNSF will operate automotive trains over the Memorial Day holiday and our automotive facilities will remain fully staffed and open for haulaway during regularly scheduled hours. Connecting carriers who have reduced operations for the holiday may cause delays on interline traffic. Due to lighter traffic volumes over the holiday, we anticipate some extending of our service schedules as we consolidate volumes to fill trains. We expect that shipments arriving on the holiday, Monday, May 29, may experience delays of up to 24 hours.
Customer Support will maintain a limited staff on Memorial Day. Normal coverage will resume Tuesday, May 30.
SERVICE EXPECTATIONS FOR THE WEEK AHEAD
Much of the network will continue to experience favorable operating conditions to begin the week. An active weather pattern, however, could generate thunderstorms and heavy rainfall periodically across the southern and northern High Plains through Saturday. BNSF teams are closely monitoring conditions in the region, particularly flood-prone areas of the network. As always, we will update customers regarding significant service disruptions.
We thank you for your business and appreciate the opportunity to serve as your transportation service provider. We welcome your feedback and questions.
