Mechanical

The Mechanical department is responsible for directly supervising shop craft employees to safely and efficiently accomplish work assignments and goals for the following groups:

Locomotive – mechanical functions pertaining to train power
Railcar – mechanical functions pertaining to equipment used to haul freight (such as boxcars, flatcars, and tank cars)

Part of these responsibilities include:

Ensuring proper materials and tools are used, and report on mechanical aspects of failures and other emergency conditions related to locomotives and railcars.
Overseeing locomotive and railcar maintenance, repair and servicing operations.
Conducting safety meetings, audits and briefings pertaining to the shop and employees.

Work in the Mechanical Department is a 24 by 7 environment including nights, weekends, evenings and holidays, on call or available for emergency situations. Employees work mostly indoors in a shop environment.

The Mechanical Department is approximately 6,000 employees strong.

Preferred Qualifications

Previous leadership experience in an operations, mechanical, engineering, or industrial environment
A Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Operations, Logistics, Business Administration or Management
Previous railroad, heavy equipment or facility maintenance experience
