Engineering
The Engineering Department is responsible for planning and directing inspection, construction, maintenance and repair for the following groups:
- Signal – railroad electronic equipment
- Structures – bridges, buildings and other railroad property and facilities
- Track – 32,500 miles of track infrastructure
These supervisors ensure the best utilization of personnel and material for a safe and cost efficient operation at maximum production. Part of their responsibilities include:
- Planning and scheduling improvement and maintenance projects.
- Ensuring the roadway (track) is properly maintained and in safe operating condition.
- Identifying and testing new technology to improve maintenance procedures and extend asset life.
Work in the Engineering Department is a 24 by 7 field environment including nights, weekends, evenings and holidays, on call or available for emergency situations. Employees work both indoors and outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
The Engineering Department is approximately 10,000 employees strong.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous leadership experience in a telecommunications, technology, manufacturing or operations environment
- A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Electronic Technology
